What has to be on the door?

The carrier's legal name and USDOT number on both sides of the power unit; interstate for-hire carriers add the MC number. Letters must contrast with the paint and read from 50 feet.

Die-cut or kiss-cut: what is the difference?

Die-cut lettering is individual letters cut from solid cast vinyl and shipped under transfer tape, so only the letters stay on the door. The kiss-cut decal is the same lettering printed on one laminated panel per door that peels off its backing like a sticker. Both are 2 inches and both pass inspection. The diagrams below show each one.

What size do you cut?

USDOT numbers at 2 inches minimum, company name sized to the door. Tell us the door width on the proof if it's unusual.

How do I apply it?

Clean the door, peel the backing, squeegee through the mask, peel the mask. About 10 minutes per door — video instructions ship with the kit.

Die-cut or kiss-cut: which kit is which

Both kits put the same legal name and USDOT number on both doors at 2 inches, and both pass a roadside inspection. The difference is what gets cut, what you peel, and what is left on the paint.

Going on the door
What it is
Every letter and number cut out of solid-color vinyl. The waste vinyl around them is weeded away by hand, and the letters ship held in position under one sheet of transfer tape per door.
On the door
Only the letters. No panel, no outline, no background. The door color shows between them.
Install
Peel the liner, squeegee through the tape, peel the tape. About 10 minutes a door. The tape keeps every letter spaced and level.
Best for
Owner-operators and fleets that want lettering that looks factory. One color, with a second color available.

What it is
Your name and numbers printed in full color on one laminated panel per door. The cutter goes through the vinyl but stops at the liner, so each door's decal lifts off its backing sheet in one piece.

One panel with the lettering on it. White, black or clear film. On clear, only a faint edge shows.

Every commercial vehicle over 10,001 lb GVWR that crosses state lines must show the carrier's legal name and USDOT number on both sides of the power unit. Interstate for-hire carriers add the MC number.
